The Softener is the water system that transforms hard water into soft water. It eliminates Ions & Minerals from the Raw water so the hardness gets removed. The hardness is nothing but the salt deposition seen in Boiler, Pipes etc which thereby corrodes the system internally.
Softening is done by ion exchange process, this process uses an ion exchange resin which replaces the calcium and magnesium ions in the waste with an equivalent no of sodium ions.
Cylinders inside water softeners are filled with resins. This means that, as the calcium and magnesium pass through the resin beads, they are attracted to one another.
